Linda Minnis steps down as Chair of Plus Dane’s Board

14.09.2016

Linda Minnis, the Chair of the Board of Plus Dane Housing, is to step down from the role at its AGM on September 15.

The former chief constable of Greater Manchester Police, Sir Peter Fahy, will succeed as Chair.

Linda has served Plus Dane and its previous subsidiaries as a board member for the last eleven years.

She first joined the board of Hornby Housing Association in 2005, which was a subsidiary of Plus Housing at that time. When the Plus Dane merger occurred in 2008, Linda was appointed as a member of the Parent Board and became Chair in September 2012.

Among her many challenges and achievements at Plus Dane, after the organisation received a regulatory downgrade in 2013, Linda was instrumental in working with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to secure a voluntary undertaking to stabilise the housing association, improve governance arrangements and improve the financial resilience of the organisation.  In 2015 a unitary Board was established under Linda’s stewardship which has full oversight and control of the organisation’s activities.

Linda leaves Plus Dane, which has more than 18,000 homes in ownership and management across Merseyside and Cheshire, after recently overseeing a major strategic restructure designed to secure its future viability as well instigating a review of the senior leadership structure within the organisation.

With the appointment of Chief Executive Barbara Spicer in 2014, followed by a leadership review and recruitment of five new board members, with Linda at the helm Plus Dane has been able to develop and implement a new corporate plan and a suite of associated strategies to strengthen its direction moving forward and set out its ambitions for the next five years.

Linda said: “I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved at Plus Dane and am confident I leave the Board at a time where the future is incredibly positive. There remain significant challenges for Plus Dane and the sector more widely that will need to be planned for and responded to, but I believe that we are in a much stronger position to deal with these effectively and for the benefit of our tenants and customers.”

Barbara Spicer, Chief Executive of Plus Dane, said: “Since my appointment at Plus Dane, Linda has been a great support as Chair. She has challenged me, and the executive team, to drive through an ambitious change agenda and improvement plan of which we can be proud. Our sincere and genuine thanks go out to her as we enter a new era.”

Sir Peter Fahy said: “It is an exciting time for me to be joining the Board of Plus Dane and I extend my congratulations to Linda Minnis on overseeing so many positive achievements as Chair. I am looking forward to working with the Board and staff of Plus Dane but most importantly with tenants, prospective tenants and local agencies so that we can provide more homes and stronger local communities.”
