Local Jobs Fair Secures Jobs for Local People!

16.09.2015

Plus Dane Housing and Cheshire West and Chester Council, organisers of the Live Local Work Local event, have hailed the event in Ellesmere Port Civic Hall last Friday a success following confirmation that some attendees have already secured jobs advertised on the day.

The event, the second to be held in Ellesmere Port brought together 30 organisations with over 400 job and apprentice opportunities under one roof. Also on hand were people to help with CV and application writing for those that wanted to apply there and then!

Thornton’s were amongst the companies who attended the event looking to fill vacancies.

Helen Naggs Store Manager Thornton’s Café Cheshire Oaks said:

“Working alongside the Ellesmere Port Work Zone we are looking to employ in the local area and support the regeneration by offering employment opportunities to the long term unemployed. Live Local Work Local was extremely successful for us and we were pleased with the high standard of candidates. Five people secured permanent positions with training and career progression opportunities, in our new Cheshire Oaks store which opens at the end of October”.

Peter Shaw, Plus Dane Director said:

“Last week’s event was a resounding success and knowing that people have already secured employment as a result is brilliant.

“Plus Dane places huge importance on supporting the regeneration of Ellesmere Port and Neston and hosting events and initiatives such as this, with key partners from the area, is something we remain committed to.”

Gemma Pear, a resident in Ellesmere Port, recently began attending a digital skills drop in hosted by Plus Dane as she was keen to become more confident using computers. She has progressed through the basic module and is currently part way through the basic+ module.

Attending Friday’s event Gemma said:

“Using my recently developed IT skills I was able to develop my CV and apply for jobs at the event and I’ve now got two interviews. I’m delighted; it was a great event and fingers crossed for the interviews!”

As well as interviews being secured and applications submitted, seven people also successfully enrolled on a pre-employment course with a guaranteed interview at the end.
