Plus Dane celebrates National Apprenticeship Week with shining star Katie

14.03.2016

This week is National Apprenticeship Week (March 14 - 18), which will include hundreds of events and activities across England to showcase apprentices and apprentice employers, and Plus Dane Housing is no exception.

Plus Dane Housing has always been a big advocate of apprenticeships. Over the years we have given lots of people opportunities to learn on the job in a variety of trades and work towards a qualification through our popular apprenticeship schemes.

There have been lots of success stories and many have gone on to climb the career ladder in their chosen profession.

One shining example is Katie Lees, who is now a personal assistant to the executive team at Plus Dane. She started out as an apprentice in 2011 and quickly gained experience across a number of areas of the organisation.

The 23-year-old, from the Toxteth area of Liverpool, always wanted to work for a company that invested in her community. As a former tenant herself, going into the social housing sector appealed.

After completing her apprenticeship with Plus Dane’s learning and development team, she has worked across the income team and as a welfare reform co-ordinator. She has also completed a recognised industry qualification in her own time.

Katie was named Plus Dane’s apprentice of the year in 2013, and it is her ambition to study to degree level while continuing to advance in her day job.

“I’ve always found apprenticeships the way forward for career development, and I recommend them to everyone as a fantastic way to earn as you learn,” she says.

“Plus Dane has always been very supportive of me and there has always been a lot of opportunity.”

To help celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, Plus Dane’s own apprentices will be out and about in the community carrying out ‘secret’ tasks to help local tenants and customers.

Any available apprentice opportunities are advertised in our current vacancies section on the Plus Dane website and also on the National Apprenticeships Service website.
