Aids & adaptations

If you are finding it difficult to get around your home, our Accessible Homes Service may be able to help you. They can offer a range of support and products that aim to help make your daily life easier.

The team may be able to help you:

  • Reorganise your home to try and manage more easily

  • Apply for a new home that better meets your needs

  • Apply for adaptations to make your home more accessible

  • Request daily living aids to help you manage day to day tasks.

We provide two types of adaptations, which we call minor and major.

Minor adaptations are works of a non-urgent kind and usually involve small jobs that can be programmed into our repairs schedule. This includes things  such as installing grab rails, door entry intercoms and lever taps.  We aim to complete all minor adaptations within 28 working days.  You can request a minor adaptation in the same way as you report a repair.

Major adaptations are larger scale alterations to your home that generally cost over £600.  Examples of major adaptations include level or easy access showers, stair lifts and downstairs bathrooms and toilets.

How to apply
If you or any member of your family has a disability or a specific need which is preventing them from leading an independent lifestyle please tell us. Once we have had a chat, we can look at ways we can help you.

Please note that any major adaptations will need a referral from an Occupational Therapist - for further details or to request an adaptation please contact us.
